This Week on the Island 05/28/2017

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather: Summer is here. Hot and humid for the next 6 months.
The book this week was ‘Kilimanjaro Snow’ by Lewis Haskell.

Started the week of by driving to Marathon to take Teeki back to the vet. She had a bad cough and a runny nose. Got some drugs and came home. Pic of 7-mile bridge.
Found an apartment on Stock Island if anyone is interested.
Sunday was Minimal Regatta day at Schooner Wharf. Lots of people build homemade boats to race on the course in the bight outside Schooner. You purchase one sheet of thin plywood, two 2x4’s, a bag of screws, and a roll of duct tape. No caulking, but you can paint. Some of the boats sink, some don’t make it around the course, and some actually finish. The winners race against each other until the ‘last man/woman standing’. It is a fun day with lots of sunburned people.
Monday is Memorial Day. Remember the fallen.

This Week on the Island 05/21/2017

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather: Starting to get hot and humid.
I was sitting on the base of the monument just outside Jimmy Buffett’s recording studio. Teeki was attracting a lot of attention, as usual. A group of young ladies came over to pet Teeki and I found they were the girls of a wedding party. All young and ready to face the world and talking to the old man sitting by bight with his dog. The beginning and the end of it.
The sun rising over the Key West bight.
A new rum factory opening in Key West.
An old cigar store closing
Sunset in Key West.
Life is short and I am feeling old this week.

This Week on the Island 05/14/2017

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather: Beautiful. The pic is taken from the boardwalk by the Conch Republic Seafood on Thursday evening. Teeki and I were sitting at the base of the monument just by Buffett’s recording studio.
I purchased myself a new tricycle for my birthday and it actually got here on my birthday.
After getting it all together, I took the basket off the back and added the Teeki Kart and took the girl for a ride. There is a new entrance to Ft. Zack State Park. Teeki and I went by on Saturday.
We parked at my favorite bench at Ft. Zack.
The city is also building a concert venue.
The stage was being assembled for the Songwriters convention. It is at the corner of Green and Duval (think Sloppy Joe’s).
This pic is from last year’s convention.
The Rum Barrel on the corner of Simonton and Front has closed.
Did I ever mention how much I love living here.
