This Week on the Island 07/16/2016

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather: Same as the last seven weeks. Hot and humid until November with a chance of a hurricane.  Pic from Howard Livingston.
This week’s book was ‘Key West Storm Warning’ by Mike Pettit.
The Lazy Gecko has closed and fired everyone. Will re-open and will bring in a new crew, will not hire locals.
House on Simonton Street getting some much-needed love and attention.
This week was Mel Fisher Days. Mel found the Atochia and brought up millions and millions in gold, silver and precious stones.
Some men from Alabama got in a lot of trouble. Lobster season starts in August. Before lobster season we have lobster mini season where individuals can catch lobster (6 per person per day). These guys were caught with over 300 lobster tails.
Then a woman from Texas is caught with over 40 Queen Conch
And last week 2 guys from Miami were caught with 3 Key Deer in their car.
Robert Davi is in town.
And last but hopefully not lease, a nice lady took this picture of me and Teeki.

The Weather: Same as the last six weeks. Hot and humid until November with a chance of a hurricane. A picture of Dog Beach.
This week’s book was ‘Key West Drop’ by Mike Pettit.
Had a little Key Lime Pie Eating Contest this week.
Also had some folks that felt like running 3.5 miles in all the heat and humidity.
Teeki and I took a ride down to Ft. Zack State Park to enjoy a little sunshine
Our toaster quit, actually it still works but you have to hold the lever down or the bread jumps up. We got it as a wedding gift 46 years ago.
We leave you this week at the foot of Duval. That pier will one day be ‘Sunset Pier’.

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather: Same as the last five weeks. Hot and humid until November with a chance of a hurricane. Our house ready for July 4th.

This week’s book was ‘Key West Smackdown’ by Mike Pettit.
Forty-six years ago, Jo and I were married in a garden in a thunderstorm.
I still love this woman
Sunrise on the way to the VA in Miami at 6:40 at mile maker 64.
Trying to get help with my right ankle. Have opted for ‘stem cell’ injections.
Around town, Chicago’s on Green Street has closed.
We are getting more hurricane resistant power poles on Duval Street.
And last but not least, Teeki and I spent some time listening to Michael McCloud at Schooner Wharf.
