This Week n the Island 02/27/2011

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘Another Key West Sunset’. This one was taken from Trumbo Road near the Navy Base, looking out over the toxic triangle. The island to the left is Christmas Tree Island.

Weather: Another wonderful week. It actually hit 80 this week. Lots of blue skies and fluffy white clouds. I guess winter is over.

This week I read ‘Lean Mean Thirteen’ by Janet Evanovich. I know, I read ‘Fearless Fourteen’ last week, but I check them out of the Key West Library and have to read them in the order I find them.

My little Suzuki Samurai is back from having the clutch replaced.

I spent more time painting the house this week. I am working on the front of the house and the gingerbread takes time.

As the winter goes away and the sun moves north, I get sun on my rocker on the front porch at 4:30PM.

I had some folks come over and ask me where Jimmy Buffett lived, they had been told that the Hummer was his and he lived somewhere close by. They were a bit disappointed when I told them the Hummer belonged to my wife.

Lower Whitehead Street was closed Saturday and Sunday for a Street Fair.

We had Civil War enactments at Fort Zack this weekend. Lots of cannon and musket fire from the Fort and from schooners at sea.

Next week: Conch Fest at Bayview Park with Howard Livingston and the Mile Marker 24 Band. http://www.conchfestkeywest.com/events/
