Thie Week on the Island 12/15/2013

‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Same as last week. Another beautiful week with the lows in the 70’s and the highs in the low 80’s and lots of sunshine.
This week I read ‘Gone Wild’ by James W. Hall.
---------New Stuff--------------------

Across Caroline Street from our house, a 96 room hotel is being constructed. It is bound by the 200 block of Williams Street, Lazy Way Lane, the 200 block of Elizabeth Street and the 700 block of Caroline Street. They started by digging an underground parking lot in the middle of the property. They piled the dirt across the street from our house. They put a 4 foot high concrete block wall around the outside of the property and built another concrete block wall around the outside of the large hole (underground parking lot.) Now they are moving the dirt to fill the area between the 4 foot wall and the parking lot. They have started putting up the wooden walls of the hotel. It is very noisy all day. This should only last about 1 more year.

Key West Rum Factory is being built inside the old Coca Cola factory on the corner of Simonton and Front.

West Marine moved from its old location to its new location 2 blocks up Caroline Street.

The Brewery will be in where the old Fresh Market (Waterfront Market) was. This is the building with the Wyland Wall seascape.

Burger-Fi is a new place on the same block of Duval as Sloppy Joes. I think it was the seafood buffet place.

Cheese Burgers was here, it will soon be Johnny Rocket. It is next to Burger-Fi. The dogs in town will miss the dog bar tiki hut they had out front for dogs to get water.

The 'jacked up house' is for sale. You may remember it from ‘This Week on the Island’ Nov 11, 2012. http://www.thisweekontheisland.blogspot.com/2012_11_17_archive.html

And of course let’s not forget Tyler, our new husky who is doing well in Key West. This is her under the table at Schooner.
